ACADEMIC/CAREER ADVISOR
General Description: Guidance Services are an important part of the total educational program at Valley Christian School. Through the services of the Academic/Career Advisor, assistance is provided to help students have a successful experience at VCS, achieve graduation goals, and direct them in career and college decisions. Advising is also provided in the areas of academics, spiritual development and student mentorship support. He/she will work under the supervision of the school administrator and coordinate efforts with principals, administration, and all teachers at VCS.
Responsibilities: Assist and manage VCS Secondary student academics, college/career pathways, standardized testing, class scheduling, parent communication, and other duties as assigned
Pay Information:
- Pay scale: $32,905 to $50,765 based on Experience, Education, and Certifications.
- Pay is prorated for Part-Time positions based on the percentage of time worked.

Working Days & Hours:
- 4-day student week with teacher contracts totaling 172 days/Admin 191 days
- Typical teacher hours: 7:15am–4:15pm, Monday–Thursday; approximately half of Fridays required for parent teacher conferences, In-service trainings, events, or other workdays.
Contract:
- Salaried Position reporting to the Valley Christian School Administrator and Secondary Principal
- Part Time Position (Note: The position may be expanded to a full-time position if the candidate can fulfill other needed responsibilities in the school)
- Start Date: Position is open immediately and continues through June 2025 with renewal expected in subsequent years
Required Qualifications:
- Specific experience in a middle school / high school setting with reviewing transcripts, advising secondary students about class placements and meeting graduation requirements
- Experience in class scheduling (creating a Master Schedule) and registering students in classes
- Background and experience in advising students on post-high school plans
- Familiarity with the college admissions process
- Experience with assisting students in obtaining college funding sources (financial aid, scholarships, grants, FAFSA applications)
- Develops excellent rapport with students, and serves as a mentor/role model
- Works well with other school staff to achieve school objectives
- Holds a minimum of a bachelor’s degree
- Must be able to keep confidence and use mature discretion in dealing with students, parents and personal information
- Your duties will involve not only the responsibilities ordinarily incumbent with your position at VCS but also those responsibilities related to the special spiritual ministry to which you are called, the training of the child in biblical Christian faith and practice. Employees play a vital role in carrying out the religious mission of instructing the next generation in the faith. In a very real sense, therefore, it is the expectation that you will strive at all times to understand, appreciate, and love the students entrusted to you for their fullest intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual development. As a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, you will faithfully attend the regular services of your church as an example of the believer
The following are additional highly valued qualifications:
- Classroom teaching experience
- US State Teacher or Guidance Services certification
- ACSI Certification in Guidance Services or other teaching area
- Experience administering the College Board suite of tests (PSAT, SAT, Advanced Placement) and score evaluation
- Knowledge and experience with apprenticeship, vocational, and trade school programs and the process of entering these programs
- Experience in business or trades outside of the school environment
Spiritual Requirements:
- Shall be a committed born-again Christian with Spirit-led Christian life and testimony
- Shall exhibit spiritual maturity and concern for the spiritual, social, emotional, and academic welfare of the students within the ministry of a Christian School
- Commitment to a Biblical Worldview philosophy of education
