GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Directed Studies is an important part of the total educational program at Valley Christian School. Through the services of Directed Studies, support is provided for students with unique learning needs. Teachers in this program will work with the Directed Studies Coordinator, students, teachers, families, and administration to deliver appropriate accommodations, modifications, and services to students who have been identified as needing additional support. Students in the Directed Studies program may have a documented learning disability, but a documented disability is not required to receive support.
Pay Information:
- Full-time pay scale: $32,905 to $50,765 based on Experience, Education, and Certifications.
- Pay is prorated for Part-Time positions based on the percentage of time worked.
- This position is part-time.

Working Days & Hours:
- 4-day student week with teacher contracts totaling 172 days/Admin 191 days
- Typical teacher hours: 7:15am–4:15pm, Monday–Thursday; approximately half of Fridays required for parent teacher conferences, In-service trainings, events, or other workdays.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Shall hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
- Shall be a born-again Christian living a Spirit-filled life.
- Shall exhibit spiritual maturity and concern for the spiritual, social, emotional, and academic welfare of students.
- Shall exhibit flexibility in supporting students, families, and teachers.
- Certified by ACSI or willing to work towards such certification.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and use mature discretion in dealing with students and parents.
- Must have genuine love for students (especially those with unique learning needs) and a positive rapport with parents and staff.
- Experience in teaching and working with students in the Elementary and Secondary settings.
- Experience in supporting and teaching students with diverse learning needs, including those with documented learning disabilities.
- Experience in modifying and accommodating class work to support student learning plans.
- Experience in working with students in small groups to support student growth.
- Experience in collecting data to communicate progress toward learning goals.
- Your duties will involve not only the responsibilities ordinarily incumbent with your position at VCS but also those responsibilities related to the special spiritual ministry to which you are called, the training of the child in biblical Christian faith and practice. Employees play a vital role in carrying out the religious mission of instructing the next generation in the faith. In a very real sense, therefore, it is the expectation that you will strive at all times to understand, appreciate, and love the students entrusted to you for their fullest intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual development. As a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, you will faithfully attend the regular services of your church as an example of the believer.

TIME REQUIRED: Part-time Position
SUPERVISES: VCS student academics for those who qualify for Directed Studies in K-12
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Spiritual Leadership
- Help create an atmosphere of spiritual awareness in the student body through positive spiritual leadership and life testimony.
- Maintain a Christ-like attitude of helpfulness in all school situations.
- Academic Guidance
- Facilitate student Private School Service Plans and communicate student goals and progress to families and staff.
- Implement small group, pull-out support services to assist students who have a Private School Service Plan in grades 1st-12th.
- Provide academic counseling services to Directed Studies students and parents in a professional and effective manner in accordance with the Valley Christian School mission, purpose, and core values.
- Provide support to teachers in implementing accommodations and/or modifications as outlined in student Private School Service Plans.
- Maintains professional, effective, and punctual communication with parents, staff, and students according to the responsibilities under Directed Studies Services at VCS.
- Timely completion, correspondence, and implementation of student Private School Service Plans.
- Work with the local School Districts and/or private organizations to connect VCS students with resources for academic testing.
- Implement Zero-hour support services or after-school support services for Directed Studies students.
- Assist the Directed Studies Coordinator in maintaining documentation for all Directed Studies students.
