Position: Head Middle School Cross Country Coach

Valley Christian School has a great tradition of Cross Country. The men’s team has won the state championship two of the last three years and placed second this year. We have been blessed in both our men’s and women’s participation numbers and our junior high programs have been fantastic as feeder programs. We are set up for continued success and need the right leaders to make it happen. This is a great opportunity to minister to an amazing group of athletes.
Duties will involve not only the responsibilities ordinarily incumbent with the position at VCS but also those responsibilities related to the special spiritual ministry to which you are called, the training of the child in biblical Christian faith and practice. Employees play a vital role in carrying out the religious mission of instructing the next generation in the faith. In a very real sense, therefore, it is the expectation that you will strive at all times to understand, appreciate, and love the students entrusted to you for their fullest intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual development. As a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is expected that you will faithfully attend the regular services of your church as an example of the believer.
Responsibilities are but not limited to:
- Committed Christian Life/Testimony-strong Christian mentorship and sportsmanship ability.
- Passion to work with young people and positively assist adolescent development.
- Assumes responsibility for the entire Middle School Cross Country Program as the Head Coach for VCS.
- Be on time and available for all meets and practices (weekday and weekend meets, weekday practices).
- Proactively communicate well, orally and written, to Athletes, Parents, and AD in conjunction with other coaches (Regular use of Team Snap).
- Must be organized and develop an effective meet competition and practice plan with other coaches.
- Provide athletes with fundamental skills and strategies within department-wide goals.
- Ability to promote teamwork and motivate student-athletes through competition.
- Help motivate athletes to maintain academic achievement.
- Participate in parent meetings. Communicate vision, goals, and philosophy clearly with other VCS Coaches and Parents.
- Ability to drive a passenger van when required.
- Read, understand, and support the mission and Core Values of Valley Christian School.
- Attend coaching clinics and classes to maintain WIAA coaching credentials
- Support and follow the VCS parent/student handbook, athletics handbook, WIAA handbook, and NFHS rules and regulations handbook.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the VCS AD.
Qualifications:
- Committed Born Again Christian Life and Testimony with a Biblical Worldview
- Middle School Cross Country coaching experience desired
- Agreement with VCS Coaching Contract and Addendum
- First Aid/CPR Certified (or willing to acquire)
- Fingerprint/Background Clearances
- Valid Driver’s License
