Athletic Director Job Description
Location: Spokane Valley, WA
Contract: Full-Time (August 2026–June 2027)
Reports to: VCS Head of School; Elementary & Secondary Principals

WORKING DAYS AND HOURS:

  • 4-day student weeks with admin contract days totaling  191 days per year
  • Typical Admin hours: 7:15am–4:15pm, Monday–Thursday; approximately half of Fridays required for parent conferences, In-service trainings, events, or other workdays ( Athletic Director hours may be adjusted with weekly game and meet schedules).
  • AD required hours at Home Games and Track Meets

PAY INFORMATION:

  • Pay scale: $32,905 to $50,765 based on Experience, Education, and Certifications.
  • Pay is Pro-Rated for Part-Time positions based on the percentage of time worked.

Position Summary
Valley Christian Athletics exists to cultivate Christ-like character and competitive excellence within a thriving Christian community. Situated on our 24-acre campus—complete with multiple gyms, a full track and field, and baseball diamonds—our athletic facilities are among the finest available at Christian schools.

Reporting to the VCS Head of School and working in collaboration with the Elementary and Secondary Principals, the Athletic Director provides visionary leadership for the K–12 athletic program and delivers high-quality management, communications, and outcomes. This role plays a vital part in nurturing spiritual growth, promoting athletic achievement, and ensuring operational excellence in alignment with VCS Mission and Core Values, ACSI, NWAC, and WIAA standards. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of integrity, teamwork, and community engagement throughout all levels of the athletic programs.

Your duties will involve not only the responsibilities ordinarily incumbent with your position at VCS but also those responsibilities related to the special spiritual ministry to which you are called, the training of the child in biblical Christian faith and practice. Employees play a vital role in carrying out the religious mission of instructing the next generation in the faith. In a very real sense, therefore, it is the expectation that you will strive at all times to understand, appreciate, and love the students entrusted to you for their fullest intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual development. As a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, you will faithfully attend the regular services of your church as an example of the believer.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership & Vision
  • Model Christ-like character, integrity, and servant leadership in all interactions.
  • Develop and communicate a shared vision for athletics, aligning with VCS’s mission and Biblical worldview.
  • Meet regularly with Head of School and Principals to set department-wide goals and evaluate progress.
  1. Program Planning & Development
  • Working with Coaches and Administration in the planning of yearly sport offerings (Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer) for Elementary (K–6) and Secondary (7–12).
  • Establish short- and long-term objectives in consultation with coaches and Administration.
  • Continue to develop and maintain the VCS Athletics Handbooks for AD, Coaches and Parents, detailing policies, procedures, and Christian conduct standards.
  • Assist Coaches as needed in organizing and facilitating high school summer league basketball participation and summer sports camps for elementary/secondary students.
  1. Staffing & Supervision
  • Identify, recruit, hire, orient, and evaluate head and assistant coaches—ensuring all contracts are executed prior to the start of seasons.
  • Provide ongoing training, mentorship, and performance feedback to coaches.
  • Supervise coaches’ pre-season and post-season program reviews; facilitate monthly staff meetings.
  • Ensure student athletes are properly supervised by coaches before and after practices until parental pick-ups.
  1. Administration & Compliance
  • Collect and manage all student-athlete documentation prior to participation—physical exams, concussion and cardiac forms, code of conduct, emergency contacts, and communicate these to VCS Coaches, Administration and Office.
  • Compile and submit WIAA eligibility reports, hardship requests, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of league rules.
  • Maintain accurate sports rosters and give these to the Business Office and Secondary Principal for FACTS billing/ athletic fee reconciliation, and communications to teachers.
  • Maintain student academic eligibility through consistent monitoring and communicating with principals, teachers, students, parents, and coaches.
  1. Facilities & Event Management
  • Coordinate scheduling, setup/cleanup/lock up of all facilities for practices, games, award ceremonies, and camps in all VCS facilities.
  • Place all athletic events/practices on the master calendar, school website calendar, Panther Tales, and ensure these communications are consistently posted on TeamSnap by coaches.
  • Oversee Booster/concessions, ticketing procedures, security, and volunteer staffing at home events.
  1. Financial & Business Operations
  • Prepare the annual Athletic Department budget with the Head of School and Finance and Operations Manager.
  • Work alongside the Development Director to procure and manage corporate sponsorships, advertising, fundraising activities, and booster-club partnerships.
  • Oversee inventory, maintenance, storage, and purchasing of uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
  1. Communication & Public Relations
  • Ensure timely, clear communications to students, families, staff, and opponents via email, website, and social media platforms for K-12 athletic programs at VCS.
  • Serve as VCS representative at Secondary WIAA NE1B League Dist. 6, Elementary Knights of Columbus meetings, and community partner events.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop seasonal promotional materials and social media content highlighting student-athletes’ achievements.
  1. Community Engagement & Outreach
  • Actively survey, internally recruit, and retain student-athletes across all grade levels.
  • Cultivate partnerships with local churches, businesses, and alumni to enhance program visibility and resources.

Qualifications

  • Character: Spiritually mature Christ follower, active in a local church, and committed to the philosophy of Christian education at VCS.
  • Education: BA/BS degree required.
  • Certification: ACSI Athletic Director (Temporary, Standard, or Professional) or willingness to acquire; WA State Teaching Certificate preferred if also teaching.
  • Experience: Proven AD experience (or assistant), plus background in scheduling and facilities management. Preferred: experience with enrichment programs (e.g., camps or clinics).
  • Skills: Exceptional organizational, administrative, and communication abilities; computer/media literacy (TeamSnap, MaxPreps, WIAA portals).
