Time Required: 10 Month Contract September 1, 2022 – June 7, 2023 (option to renew)

Responsible To: VCS Business Office

Job Summary: Provides a variety of medical and clerical office assistance and related services to support the school office health room working under the license of the RN.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties-

  • Assist RN in implementing school health services
  • Maintain student school health records
  • Provide student and staff care as it relates to injuries or illnesses
  • Explain documents and requirements and answer procedural inquiries
  • Perform data entry and word processing functions
  • Maintain and retrieve immunization information for student compliance with district and state regulations
  • Maintain and retrieve a variety of health files, logs, and other records/documents (computer and hard copy including confidential files) to ensure accurate, up-to-date information is available
  • Maintain inventory of health room supplies
  • Administer medication and implement health care plans as directed by the school nurse
  • Consults with the school nurse regarding communicable diseases and responds accordingly
  • Generate reports and other required information
  • Attend meetings and training as directed
  • May escort students to and from locations
  • Maintain a consistent presence at an assigned worksite and regular work hours
  • Professionally interact with students, parents, staff, and public
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures
  • Other duties assigned could include office, lunch room, and playground.

  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Knowledge of HIPPA laws regarding medical information and confidentiality, laws about the administration of oral medication, communicable diseases, immunizations, district health services policies and procedures, etc.
  • Skills in keyboarding on PC and knowledge of related software
  • Skills in written and oral communication and familiarity with medical terminology
  • Skills in handling confidential matters
  • Skills in operating a PC utilizing district-adopted software
  • Skills in learning and interpreting assignments, procedures, rules, and regulations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of medical office, nursing assistant, or closely related experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Must be able to pass a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and other certifications specific to assignment within one year of hire.
